Where are the incisions placed? How is the procedure performed?
Generally, a horizontal incision is placed just within or above the pubic area. The length of the incision extends from one side of your pelvis to the other. In most cases, the incision is kept within your bathing suit lines, but this may not always be possible.

Some patients have loose skin above the navel so a second incision might be needed around the navel so that the skin above it can be pulled down. The excess abdominal skin is then removed. The position of the navel remains unchanged.

In the full abdominoplasty, the skin is raised up to the level of the breast bone. This allows the surgeon to place a suture in the abdominal muscles to tighten them. After the skin from the umbilicus to the pubic hair line is removed and discarded, the skin is brought down tightly and closed. In addition, a new youthful umbilical opening is created where the belly button comes out.
