How is Breast Augmentation Surgery performed?
The implants can either be placed on top of or underneath the chest muscle. Our surgeon is able to insert the implants through incisions around the areola, under the breast fold or underarms. By inserting the implants through the underarms, our surgeon is able to reduce the appearance of scars.
What type of breast implants can be used for breast augmentation surgery?
Saline breast implants: Filled with sterile salt water. Saline implants may be pre-filled to a predetermined size. Saline may also be filled at the time of surgery to allow for minor modifications in implant size.
Silicone filled breast implants: Filled with soft, elastic gel. All silicone breast implants are pre-filled and may require a longer incision for implant placement. Also, they may not be able to be placed through the underarms.

Brest augmentation can:
Enlarge breasts that never developed to a desirable size after puberty

Duration of Surgery: one to two hours, depending on incision
Healing: After your procedure, you will be dressed in a support bra or garment and sent home to rest. You will need a caregiver at all times during the first 24 hours. For the 1st week, you will feel stiff and sore, and your skin may be sensitive to touch. You will also notice some discoloration and swelling, but the swelling will decrease within a month. You will be able to walk on your own immediately after your surgery; however, our surgeon will give you restrictions on activity.
Age Requirements: Ask our surgeon during your FREE consultation because FDA requirements are different for saline and silicone implants.
Effects on Breast Feeding: Some women are not able to breastfeed regardless of surgery, so discuss this with your surgeon
Risks: Bleeding, infection, capsular contracture, decreased nipple sensation. Discuss this with your surgeon. Also, implants do not last forever but on average can last 10 years or longer. This means that women who undergo breast augmentation surgery will undergo at least a second procedure sometime in the future.
